Description

Prus Kraljevina orange wine have a deeper amber color. The bouquet is expressive and complex, with perceptions of warm fruit tones reminiscent of spicy apple compote, pears and dried apricots. In the mouth, the aromatics are nicely confirmed; the fruit character is complemented by moderately ripe tannins, which give the wine structure and breadth.

The wine is dry, bold, with balanced acids and a well-pronounced woody influence, where notes of vanilla, wood and dried fruit intertwine. The finish is longer, harmonious and nicely rounded. Overall, it is a perfect, elegant interpretation of orange wine.

Maceration

Two-year maceration on strawberry skins and lees. Maturation in oak barriques. No filtration.
The orange version of Kraljevina wine, macerated on skins for weeks, transforms Kraljevina’s subtlety into a tannic powerhouse—think Slovenian take on Italian ramato, but earthier from Bela Krajina’s terroir. It’s not their only use; Kraljevina adds zippy acidity to Prus’s white blends like Beli Trio

Kraljevina grape

While Kraljevina (meaning “Kingdom” in English) is more commonly associated with Croatia’s continental regions, it thrives across the border in Slovenia’s Posavje wine district—specifically the  Dolenjska sub-region, where it’s a key player in light, acidic white blends like Cviček.
Here, the grape adapts to the area’s Pannonian-continental climate: warm, sunny days, cool nights, and mineral-rich sandy-clay soils that amplify its crispness. Yields are high, but Slovenian producers like Prus emphasize quality through selective harvesting and innovative styles, elevating this humble variety beyond everyday quaffers.

Prus’s predicates (e.g., ice wines) dominate awards, but their Kraljevina has racked up golds at Vino Slovenija and international nods like Decanter. The winery’s 20+ hectare estate yields small-batch gems, with Kraljevina comprising a modest but pivotal plot
